CONTEXT
Petronas Technology & Engineering (formerly Petronas Research & Technology) is a division of Petronas, a Fortune Global 500 oil corporation headquartered in Kuala Lumpur.  The division’s role in the company is the key driver of research, innovation and application of technology as a factor of operational excellence and growth.  It has pioneered a number of breakthroughs in the oil and gas sector.
CHALLENGE
Petronas T&E aimed to raise higher awareness about its role amongst its 44,000 employees globally, as well as sharing Petronas research achievements.  At the same time, it wanted to inspire more utilisation of its resources  The division’s intranet, which is the knowledge bank and go-to site for technology-based resources, is currently under-utilised.  The homogenous identity of all divisions made it harder to reach out.  Thus, T&E also wanted to have a facelifted identity they can call their own.

SOLUTION

Insights lead us to ascertaining its true source of inspiration and real “story”  not the technology in itself, but the people and their collaborative ideas behind innovations.  With human and emotive focused positioning, the client now has the foundation of which relevance, meaning and engagement can be generated.  A rallying-call for colleagues of all backgrounds to embark on a common quest to make a difference – the division now differentiates itself with a masthead, while remaining aligned with the standards of its corporate master brand.  The redesigned intranet is also transformed from the image of an information library to become more of a social and collaborative platform.
