NEWS: Reviving A Heritage Building

Breathing Life Back to The Star’s Pitt Street Building

One of the joys of branding is helping organisations reflect who they are, what they stand for; and in the process, helping them connect with the people that matter most to them. The 2012 engagement of Thinkscape by The Star – Malaysia’s No.1 newspaper – was certainly one such instance.

The client was celebrating its 40th anniversary and wanted to relaunch its old office address, which was a heritage building in the state of Penang, into an exciting discovery centre that will be hosting various social events and interactive activities.

This would be the client’s way of “giving back” to the community. In our quest to weave a brand identity that reflects this spirit, the client’s desire to connect this building with the people – at the same time avoiding the cliched “old heritage” image – were all taken into account.

The result: an energetic, differentiated identity that reflects the promise of the new role of this building, which shall once again set abuzz with activities – a sustainable tribute to the place and people where it all started for a once humble paper called The Star.
