Thinkscape Group’s John Jong Puts Perspective into ‘Placemaking’ at the Shopper Marketing Asia Conference. 

At the invite of Shopper Marketing Asia 2014 Conference held at the Mid Valley Exhibition Centre, Thinkscape Group executive design director, John Jong had presented an eye-opening sharing on the importance of translating the brand experience in physical places. The event was launched by the Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism, Y.B. Senator Dato’ Seri Ahmad Bashah Bin Md. Hanipah. The two day conference was part of a twin-event – the second Annual Digital Marketing and Advertising Showcase, and the Shopper Marketing Expo organised by JFPS Group. Other speakers and audience of the show consisted of renowned decision-makers of the retail industry.

Through his talk, entitled Placemaking: Putting Purpose into Places, John added a fresh, “real world” perspective to a symposium that had mostly monopolised by discussions on virtual trends.

“At a time when brands are increasingly playing on a level playing field – and each claiming to be the best – our physical, three-dimensional world becomes ever more important as testament of your brand’s promise to customers,” said John. “From malls, shop outlets, galleries, exhibition stands to kiosks, brands need ‘brand places’ to be tangible and make their presence felt.”

He further stressed that by merging the disciplines of architecture, interior and retail design with brand strategy and identity design, an all-round, believable customer brand experience can be established.
